What is Purple Dining?
Purple Dining is a program that certifies restaurants in dementia sensitivity training. This training is necessary to meet the demands in the coming years of aging in place. This program offers a comprehensive experience to educate restaurant establishments on how
to effectively engage this growing population of patrons. The goal of this education
is recognizing the importance of empathy when interacting with a person who is affected with a form of dementia.
Our company empowers restaurants with expertise education. Having knowledge of what dementia is and how it affects a person can translate into a more inclusive and pleasant dining experience for everyone.
Why was Purple Dining Created?
Purple dining was created to educate the restaurant industry in dementia. There are over 5.8 million people living with a form of dementia currently in the United States. These people are living in our communities. On average, a person with dementia is living at home (either independently or with supervision) and being cared for by their families. In the earlier to middle stages of the dementia, most are living their day to day routine. They are still active in the community and participating with social engagements either alone or with their family. This training is necessary to enhance a deeper understanding of how dementia affects a person’s social interactions and how to create a more inclusive environment to improve everyone’s dining experience. The fact is that meals bring families together and odds are, they will be dining in a restaurant.
Why become Purple Dining Certified?
Getting your Purple Dining Program Certification (PDP) recognizes that a restaurant has been educated and trained on dementia and the staff has been prepared to better serve these patrons.

How to become Purple Dining Certified?
PURCHASE TRAINING MATERIAL
We have already created digital material for you to purchase and distribute to your staff. You can purchase all the training material you need and stay certified by reviewing it annually.
REVIEW AND LEARN
Each restaurant employee will need to watch the Purple Dining Program (PDP) sensitivity training video annually. The link to this content is provided in your training manual.
COMPLETE THE QUIZ
Each staff member will need to take a quick online test to ensure they have received and understand the training provided to them. Once they have passed the quiz, your servers will be able to register themselves as Certified Purple Dining Servers (CDPS). As a certified server you may download and carry an ID card.
ASSIGN A DESIGNATED TRAINER
We recommend that you select a Designated Trainer who will be responsible for reviewing the Purple Dining training guidebook and distributing the education to your staff as a constant resource.
GET LISTED
Once your establishment has provided training to staff, you will receive your Purple Dining Certification and windows stickers. You'll also be eligible to have your website listed on the Purple Dining directory and advertised in our Purple Patrons' Newsletter.
